Malacca Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Malacca / Melaka City, Malaysia)

Malacca is right near the equator, meaning a consistently warm climate with high humidity year round. It has wet and dry seasons, yet rarely has the intense rain that the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia typically sees.

It is good to visit any time of year weather wise, although avoiding the September to November period is the best bet for missing the worst of the rains. This time of year also has the highest incidence of haze from Indonesia's slash 'n' burn merchants.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

There are no real seasons in Malacca, only wet and dry. The optimum time to visit is from December to February, when the climate is at its coolest and driest. June and July are also fairly dry, albeit a lot warmer. Those with an aversion to heat should avoid midday sun and stay in hotels with air conditioning.

September, October and November see the worst of the weather in the city, with more rainy days than non-rainy days. It rarely rains all day during these months, though, and temperatures are noticeably cooler.
